Apprenticeship program launches 12 students towards debt-free success

Illinois Central College, Ill. – A local apprenticeship program is helping students get paid, while earning their degrees.

12 students enrolled at Illinois Central College will be the first to take part in the Industrial Maintenance Apprenticeship Program.

“I think it’s a huge step for everybody,” says Anthony Whittenburg, ICC Student. “I believe that this program will help out a lot of people and basically get into a good job and continue on with their lives and possibly continue moving forward.”

They earn as they learn making at least $13 an hour.

The company they work for pays for tuition, fees, and books.

Those involved in the program are AECOM, ALCAST, Caterpillar Inc., and Morton Buildings.

“For me, I am a person who learns with hands on, so if I do more hands on stuff then I learn 10x better than learning from a book,” says Whittenburg.

Successful completion of the program leaves students receiving their associates degree.

ICC plans to incorporate more apprenticeship programs beginning in January.
